We were at the bank, which is right next door to a Chick-Fil-A... which means, both boys start hounding me, "Can we go, mom? Can we go to Chick-Fil-A?" Unfortunately, we couldn't. And they were both pretty bummed. Preston sang a song to express his disappointment (and it is more or less to the tune of Tim Hawkin's Chick-Fil-A song aka "Yesterday":
"Chick-Fil-A, we can't eat there because Mom didn't say, and now we'll boo her all day.
I just wanted to have nuggets and play, I'm so sad we can't have Chick-Fil-A."
There was more, but I can't remember it. It was really good though, lol.
I'm sitting at the computer, and Preston is in the other room playing around with his guitar and singing:
"So, tell me what you want, what you really, really want? I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want. I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really, really, really, really wanna MAKE FRIENDS! You have to like my frieeennddsss! If you want to love me you have to get with my friends!"
Me: Keep working on your sentence. The next word is "refreshes." Preston(hating every minute of it): That word is too long! My pencil doesn't have enough ink!
Preston: Well, I had a dream that me and my Big Bear were famous football players. And we were taking lots of pictures, we like taking pictures. And we were handing out autographs.
Me: Cool!
Preston: But.... no one wanted to take our autographs. There were some other more famous people there, and the people wanted THEIR autographs instead.
Me: More famous people like who?
Preston: Um... that one person that sing "Baby, baby, baby, ohhhhh..."
We got up early on Monday and took Michael to work so that we could make use of the car. And boy did we - I crammed so many errands into one day it made our heads spin, but we got it all done! Callen had his 18-month check up: Healthy, but underweight (4th percentile - that's where Preston was most of the time too, so I'm not too worried). He's 32.5" tall and just 21.5 lbs.
Places we're going and people we're seeing...
On Monday, we also stopped by Gorbella's so the boys could play a little. And on Thursday, I had a few friends over with their kids for a playdate. The kids had so much fun. The ages ranged from 4-months to nearly 6 years old, but they all did well together. I had a nice time getting to hang out with a couple of ladies I didn't previously know very well. I can't wait to do that again soon! We also spent some time at our park this week... so glad it's within walking distance!
I'm grateful for...
the fact that Fall is officially here. I love Fall. It is my FAVORITE! And this morning even FELT like Fall out there. Makes me all giddy!!!
A quote to share...
This morning I told the boys I was going potty and would be right back. Callen started fussing because I had left him in the playpen and he was tired of it. This is what I heard...
Preston: Don't cry, baby. Mommy isn't going to a party you're not invited to. She's going to to the potty, not a party. And I wasn't invited either."
In our homeschool this week...
Tot School: Ehh, not going as planned as far as having specific things scheduled to do with the baby. But, I am able to find things to occupy Callen for little bits of time so Preston and I can work together, or at least so Preston can work on something independently while I play with Callen. And I leave anything that needs a lot of concentration for when Callen is taking a nap, that way Preston gets complete quite and attention from me.
Making sweet music!
Bible: We learned and memorized Proverbs 10:5 "He who gathers crops in the summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son." And he still remembers last week's verse, woo hoo! We also read from our Hands-On Bible.
Reading/Writing: Finished up practicing letters and created our Alphabet Scroll. Started on short vowel 'a.'
Our ABC Scroll is finished!
Math: This week's theme was sorting and classifying. We read some fun books about sorting, like The Button Box and Dave's Down-to-Earth Rock Shop. Preston sorted his pattern blocks, lots of buttons, his bag of animals and all kinds of other things.
Little Brother "helping" to sort animals
Science: We discussed Seasons, which was pretty timely considering today is the First Day of Fall! We read a book every day (see below) about the seasons. Preston illustrated what a tree looks like in each season. One of the books we read was Autumn: An Alphabet Acrostic. A very cool, beautifully illustrated book using each letter of the alphabet to make little poems about the specific words using those letters. Preston thought this was so neat, and spent most of the day trying to come up with his own. He hasn't figured one out just yet. =)
Seeing the earth rotate!
Art/Music: We talked about and listened to music played by a soprano recorder and bagpipes! We also looked at a landscape painting from our book and talked about the basic elements of drawing (circle, dot, straight line, curved line and angles).
Spanish: Working with numbers, but moved up into 11-20.
I recently made some iced coffee concentrate (from here) to have on hand when I get a craving. Iced coffee is so nice to have on a hot afternoon. I made it de-caf so that I could have it and not be up all nite. So, this afternoon, I was using up the last bit of it, and Preston was giving me the "Please, Mommy, may I have some?" face. I figured since it was not very sweet or flavored he wouldn't like, and since it was de-caf, I let him have a taste. I completely expected him to be disgusted, but no...
Preston: "Mmm, it tastes just like Starbucks Iced Coffee!"
Me: "Yeah, good, it's supposed to. WAIT! How do you know what Starbucks Iced Coffee tastes like?!?!"
Last nite, both sets of Preston's grandparents came over and we all had dinner together (Colters BBQ, yum!). Michael asked Preston if he thought he should be better dressed for his graduation party, and he replied, "Well, I'm wearing fancy pants and a Power Rangers shirt... I am dressed up!" Lol. His "fancy pants" are the black khaki pants we got at the the thrift store last month. Haha! After dinner, we all headed over to my friend Liz's house for the Homeschool Kindergarten Graduation and Awards Party. It was a bit of a zoo with all the kids running around, but they were having a blast. Some of the kids did some presentations on things they learned. There was even a Fifty Nifty States song!
Super cute!
I gave Preston his little Kindergarten Graduate diploma, and a goodie bag with stuff to do this summer.
P is all "I want my reward!"
You did it!
We're pretty proud of our big guy... a Kindergarten Graduate!
Preston: Mom, I think if you were going to the baseball game with Jesus.... you'd need 4 tickets. One for you, one for Jesus, one for the Holy Spirit and one for God, the Father! Hahahahah, you'd have to have FOUR tickets!
I told Preston about the saying "You are what you eat." His reply...
"Well, I was a Pop-Tart this morning. Now I'm spaghetti. And you're a TUNA SANDWICH OF LOVE!"
He's so right. =)
"Look what I can do!"
Preston told me he could read my mind. He kept saying, "I knew you were going to do that" or "I knew you were going to say that."
Me: Ok, smarty-pants, what am I thinking right now?
Preston: You're thinking that since I was doing such a good job helping my brother eat his lunch, you were going to reward me. Isn't that what you were thinking? I KNOW IT IS, IT HAS TO BE!
Preston was playing Mario Brothers on the Wii this evening and at one point he kept getting killed over and over. One time, just as his player died, he yelled "MADE IN CHINA, GGGGRRRRRR!!!!!" Apparently that's one way to voice your aggravation!
This morning I was coming out of my bedroom after taking a shower when I heard a crash in the living room where the boys were supposed to be watching TV.
Me: "Preston, what are you doing?"
Preston: "Investigating 'nertia."
He was watching Sid, The Science Kid and they were talking about inertia. He was crashing his hotwheels into things.

I had some leftover frozen sugar cookies and made them this evening. They were Christmas shapes.
Me: "Preston, do you want a snowman, a Christmas tree or a star?"
Preston: "A star. Because I love Jesus. ... And He's the star of my life."
Me: :::swoon::: "That was an awesome thing to say! I'm glad you feel that way!"
Preston: "Yeah, I can't believe I said that. It just POPPED OUT!"
For the past few years, Preston has often pretended to be a statue (usually at the most inopportune times, ie. "Preston, time to get in the bathtub!" "I can't move, I'm a statue." "Sigh."). Anyway, today he decided that to be a statue he had to be holding something. I dunno either. So...
Preston: "Mom, I'm a statue, what should I hold?"
Me: (dismissively): "Um... chocolate."
Preston: "Ok!" :::runs to the pantry::: "Hmmmm...." :::searches::: "OH! Nutella! I can hold Nutella. MOM, CAN I HOLD THE NUTELLA?!?"
Me: "Yeah, sure, that's fine."
Preston: "Ahem" :::stands there for a good 5 minutes:::
Me: "Dude, you can play Nutella Statue all day long if you want to, 'cause at least you're being quiet and still!"
After I caused the Cream of Wheat to boil over (TWICE!)...
Preston: Mom, I think you should call The Cordon Bleu!
That kid is never allowed to watch tv again. Ever!
He will also spend a good 30-minutes every day trying to sell me something infomercial style (call now, free shipping, we'll send you two, etc.)

We had a quilt hung up over his windows for the past month or so to help keep the cold air from leaking into his room. I finally took it down yesterday so we could open the windows and enjoy the nice temperature. He didn't notice until bed time when he saw the quilt on his bed instead of up on his window.
Preston: Hey, who took the quilt down?
Me: I dunno, who would be crazy enough to do such a thing?
Preston: Daddy? No.... :::looks around nervously, then looks up at me kinda guilty-looking::: Did I do it?
I was playing with Preston and when we were done wrestling, I noticed my hair was allll crazy.
Me: Oh hey, do you like my hair, Preston? Preston: Yeah! It's like Rock Music Hair!!!!
x
Preston was playing with a toy dinosaur when he suddenly yelled...
"LOOK OUT FOR CREDITORS!!!!" (he meant predators, but... that too!)
x
I was making lunch, and Preston was drawing and writing at the table, he suddenly smacked his head...
Preston: "THE PYRAMID!" Me: Huh? The Pyramids? Like, in Egypt? Preston: No, like goes at the end of my sentence! Pyramid. Me: Oh, the period, not pyramid. You know what a pyramid is? Preston: No, but it doesn't go here in my sentence apparently.
The other day, we were watching The Jungle Book when Jill and Steve came over. Grandma took Callen outside in the front yard for some fresh air, while Preston stayed mesmerized by the movie. When suddenly...
Preston: Um... excuse me, can you pause it! PAUSE IT!
Me: What? Why? You need to go potty?
Preston: No, it's just... my brother is outside so I must be outside too!
It was pretty cute to see that as soon as he realized Callen wasn't within his view, he was concerned and needed to be with him.

The other day we were out at lunch with my mom, the waitress was making conversation with Preston...
Waitress: How old are you? Preston: Five. Waitress: Oh, are you in school? Preston: Yes. Waitress: What do you think of school, do you like it? Preston: Yes. I'm homeschooled. My Mom: He's taught at home so he doesn't really know what school is like. Preston: Yeah, they don't teach about Jesus... that's all I know!
LOL! That's my boy!
x
Me: What would you like for lunch today?
Preston: Peanut butter and Jelly sandwich... :::evil grin::: IN THE SHAPE OF A PIRATE SHIP! Muwahahah!
Me: Um, oh...kay then.
I tried... but ended up just making it in the shape of a little lame boat with a flag. But, he didn't care, was impressed nevertheless.
Preston: Mommy, I still haven't gotten you a Christmas present. What do you want?
Me: A full night's sleep.
Preston: No, something you can buuuyyyy! :::lightbulb goes off over his head::: Wait, I know what I can get you! A Sleep Number Bed! That will help you sleep!
Me: You watch too many commercials. But... you got enough money to buy one of those for me?
Preston: Sure I do!
Me: They're pretty expensive, I think.
Preston: I'm thinking they're like $25, right? I can do $25.
