Hey, It's Jade! and family

2011-2012 Curriculum

Our school year started on September 8th, 2011 and ran through May 16th, 2012.

Preston's First Grade Curriculum, 2011-2012

I also added...

and
The Complete Book of Spanish, Grades 1-3.

Our first subject was always our Morning Board where we show the date, the daily weather, our weekly Proverbs scripture, did our number of the day in many different ways and kept up with our workbox chart.  [My inspiration, and the printables, came from here and here and here.]

We use a workbox system for our daily assignments.  It helps me to stay organized and keep us on task.  Also, if we need to take a break and come back later in the day, we can easily see what's left to do and get right to it! We usually had about 5 subjects to cover each day, sometimes more, sometimes less. I set them up the nite before so they're ready to go first thing in the morning.  We didn't always do them in in the exact order I initially set them up in, but the basic idea is just to make sure that by the end of the day we had been through them all.  Our workboxes this year were really magazine storage boxes, but worked wonderfully for us (though, fyi, some large books and notebooks do not fit even at an angle!).
Our Workboxes

Callen is my toddler, so we also attempted a bit of "Tot School."  I had specific things set out for him to do each day.  Sometimes that worked, sometimes it didn't.  Again, he was a toddler and didn't exactly always follow a schedule or rules.  Ha!  I just tried to make sure he had something to occupy him like coloring (he LOVED dry-erase boards and sheets) so that he's not in Big Brother's business all the time.  But a lot of the time, we had to do school when Little Brother was taking a nap!
