Tastes from Home with Frito-Lay Recipe & Giveaway (Closed)

#8 is the winner!
We have a winner!  Congratulations to Jessica, who said: "I like Frito's barbecued corn chips!"  Jessica, I have emailed you, please respond by Wednesday to claim your prize.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, if you live in the South, you are probably familiar with Frito-Pie.  My mouth waters just typing those words.  Frito-Pie was a staple at my house growing up.  It's quick, easy, delicious and filling.  Ok, it's not healthy, but... what real home-style comfort food is?  The recipe my mom used to make this tummy warming meal was simple, nothing you couldn't easily recreate.  But, simple isn't necessarily a bad thing.  Especially in this case!

Frito-Pie Ingredients:
- 1 bag of Fritos
- 1 can of chili
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese
- Chopped onion

You can combine these four ingredients any which way you choose in your own bowl, but my favorite was always to have a layer of Fritos, a layer of cheese and onion, add warm chili and then top off with another layer of cheese and onions.  I like mine cheesy and onion-y!  If you REALLY wanna make it Texas-style, though, you can add sliced jalapenos for an extra kick!  Yee-haw!

Back in the day, we used to get Frito-Pie at the high school football stadium concession stand.  They'd open a bag of individual-sized Frito chips, pour the chili and cheese right into that bag and hand you a fork.  Yes sir!  No reason to make it any more complicated than that!

*
Frito-Lay recently came out with some new varieties for their Lay's Chips, featuring regionally inspired flavors!  We have tried Chipotle Ranch, and it has some delicious spice to it!  What can I say?  I'm from Texas, I like my food to bite back!  And for that reason I'd like to try to the Cajun Herb & Spice.  The Garden Tomato & Basil also sounds like it'd be mighty tasty too!  Which one looks good to you?

Giveaway!
Would you like to try some of these new Lay's flavors?  Frito-Lay is providing me with a variety pack of Lay's Regionally Inspired Flavors potato chips to give away to one of my readers.  All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling me which of the Frito-Lay varieties is your favorite!  It can be old favorite or one of the brand new ones!  Make sure to leave an email address so I can contact you if you win.  Comments must be left by Friday, August 19th, 11:59pm.  Winner will be chosen using random.org, announced on Monday, August 22nd and notified by email, and have 48-hours to respond.

[Disclaimer: Frito-Lay provided me with chips to give away and this blog post was written as a form of entry into a contest for Frito-Lay prizes.  The opinions stated above are my own.]

Little Things He Does...

So, last nite I had a bit of a meltdown.  Same 'ole song and dance, really.  Finances, frustration about certain things going nowhere, etc.  The pot just has to boil over every so often.  I hadn't cried in a while... I was due.

Then this morning I took the boys to the Splash Factory so they could have a good time and exert some energy.  Oh yeah, my sweet parents are letting me borrow their car while my dad is home on vacation this week.  The boys and I have enjoyed having the freedom to run to the library, go to the grocery store in the middle of the day... and precious stuff like that.  You don't realize how great those options are, until you lose them.  Anyway, we went to the Splash Factory, and when I got home the Fed Ex guy rung the doorbell.  I was expecting some things in the mail and from UPS (I ordered stuff from Amazon with credit I earned from surveys), not Fed Ex.  It ended up being a prize I won from Twizzlers (for simply writing this post).

It's a beach bag, beach towel and some packages of Twizzlers, of course!  Just about an hour prior to opening that package, I was like... "uh, I thought I had a beach or mesh bag that we could put stuff in to take the water park, oh well."  Then, here I was "hello, beach/mesh bag!"  Lol.

Then, this afternoon I took the boys to the library, post office and bank (oh yes, enjoying the heck out of having a car at my disposal!) and when I got back, I checked my email.  I received an email from one of the Word-Of-Mouth Street Team things I do.  I won a prize for telling people about Grouptune (see this post)!
$50 credit to buy Christian music... I'm down with that!

Now, the meltdown I had last nite involved worrying about money... and the next day, I was handed two prizes.  Of course, neither of these prizes help pay the bills.  They aren't necessities that will help us stretch our dollars farther.  But, I am grateful, because, as silly as it sounds, these littles prizes (the beach bag, the candy, the credit for music, the stuff I'm getting for free from Amazon, the car I've been allowed to borrow for a week!) are TOTALLY from God.  His little way of saying, "Hey, look... I got you covered!"  Thanks, God.  I know You do.

Twizzlers Landmark Summer

We had a blast in San Antonio last month, on our road trip with the family.  Got to see The Alamo, The Riverwalk, Sea World and so much more!  Now that the trip has come and gone, it's got me wondering... where to next?!?!  One place my husband and I have talked about going (when the kids are old enough to really enjoy it) is Washington, D.C.  We'd love to check out all the amazing history museums and see the famous landmarks!  Again, it's not really something we're up for right now while the kids are so young, but someday!

Twizzlers is currently running a promotion looking to send a family on a road trip to their favorite U.S. Landmark.  Or you could win a G.P.S., digital camera and more!  Prizes are given away every day, so enter every day to win!  Mmm, I love me some Twizzlers!
Hey, we have one of these in Dallas now, too!
I'd totally eat that!
I am writing this post to be entered into a contest for a Twizzlers Landmark Summer promotion prize pack as a member of the Mom Bloggers Club.

Coffee-Mate Giveaway!

And the winners are:

Congratulations to Carole Spring and Sarah W, it's your Free Flavor Friday!  You both win a coupon for a free bottle of Coffee-Mate Non-Dairy Coffee Creamer!  Please email me (heyjade[at]gmail[dot]com) your address so I can mail it to you!  Thank you to everyone for visiting my blog and entering the giveaway.  I hope to do more like this in the very near future!!!

-------

A few months ago, Coffee-Mate held what they called "Free Flavor Friday."  Unfortunately, technology couldn't keep up with the massive amounts of people who desperately wanted a free bottle of Coffee-Mate Non-Dairy Coffee Creamer.  What can we say?  We love our coffee.  Because I'm a member of the Brew Crew (a sort-of street team for the Coffee-Mate brand), they sent us some of the coupons to help appease our family and friends that may have been put off by the FFF disaster.  Ok, seriously, I was reading some of the nasty comments left by people who couldn't get through to get the coupon on CM's facebook wall, just wow.  It was a FREE giveaway... I couldn't believe how angry people were about it!  Anyway, I've sent out most of them, but retained a few to give away here on my blog.  So, want some free coffee creamer?  You know you do!

If you follow my twitter or just so happen to know me in person, you know that I am allll about the coffee.  I can't survive or function without it.  But, I only like coffee if it has a rich, delicious flavor... that's where Coffee-Mate comes in!  I have tried other creamers, but honestly... they don't hold a candle to the one and only Coffee-Mate brand.  Are they paying me to say this?  No.  I'm serious, I love this stuff!  It's hard to pick a favorite flavor though, there are so many to choose from!!  My favorite changes with the seasons (or if there happens to be a Limited Edition flavor out - oh, Black Cherry Streusel, how I miss you!).  All that being said, I would admit that Peppermint Mocha is the one I always make my way back to eventually.

I'm just a little flavor obsessed, that's all!
Now on to the Contest!

2 winners will receive one coupon for a free bottle of Coffee-Mate Creamer.  I will use random.org to pick two random entries.  All you have to do to enter is leave a comment telling me which Coffee-Mate Creamer flavor is your favorite!  Entries must be in by Thursday, April 14th at 10pm (Central) and the winners will be announced on Friday morning, April 15th, so check back here (winners will also be emailed if you leave your address in your comment).  If you are a winner, you have 48-hours to respond/claim your prize once it has been announced.

[I am a member of the Coffee-Mate Brew Crew and received these coupons for being part of the team.  The statements about the product are my own, honest opinions.  Coffee-Mate is not responsible for this giveaway.]

Mabel's Labels Review & Giveaway (Closed)

Congratulations to Commenter #1: Natalie!  She picked up the Mabel's Labels Promo Item Prize Pack!  Thanks to everyone that checked out my blog and entered this giveaway!

--------
Mabel's Labels are super handy for keeping track of your stuff... and especially your kids' stuff!  In fact, their mottos is "Labels for the stuff kids lose!"  They have many, many different kinds of labels.  Sticky labels for your bottles or sippy cups that are dishwasher and microwave safe.  Labels that can be ironed onto kids' clothes that will survive the washing machine.  Labels to stick to the inside of their shoes even!  There are metal dog-tag type labels for backpacks and bags.  Mabel's Labels also offers household labels to organize your spices or left-overs.  They have stationary cards and return address labels.  And they have allergy alert labels or kid 4-1-1 bracelets, all in the name of safety!  So, you can see they have lots of variety in their labels.  But what makes them really special?  Their adorable designs and colors!

A tiny little icon for just about any occasion, personality or decor!  I, of course, chose the adorable spotted cow for our sticky labels.  They're super cute!  I use them on sippy cups, toys and back in October, I even used them to make sure we kept track of our Halloween bags.  Worked like a charm!

Giveaway: I have a cute Mabel's Labels prize pack to give away.  It features an adorable cloth tote bag with the Mabel's Labels humming bird design in orange and red, along with a sticky notepad, a "baby sitter info" notepad, a "be sure to pick up" grocery list notepad and a  pen/highlighter.  To enter, check out the website Mabel.ca, then come back and leave a comment on this post letting me know which of their products you like the best and how you would use it.  I will accept entries through Tuesday, February 1st at 10pm (Central).  I will use random.org to pick a winning comment and post the winner here.  Please leave  an email address in your comment so that I can contact you if you win.

Unfortunately, the prize pack does not include any actual Mabel's Labels labels.  Let me know if you are interested in purchasing some, though, because I might have a coupon code you can use to save yourself some money!

Charlie Church Mouse Super Pak Review & Giveaway (Closed)

Congratulations to Liz! Thanks to everyone for entering!

-----

Left Behind Games sent me a copy of their Charlie Church Mouse Super Pak PC CD-ROM game.  This package combines three different sets of games, each designed specially for children at different stages. We did not sample the Preschool level, however it states on the box that it is for ages 2-4 and offers games based on shapes, colors, numbers, letters and more.

We started with the Kindergarten game for my son (age 5), who is currently being homeschooled at a Kindergarten level.  These games, for ages 4-6, offer lessons on counting, sequencing, sorting, measurements and more through Bible stories Each game allows the player to get involved in the story.  For example, in the story of the Widow who's sons are being sold because she cannot pay her debt, the player must help her find empty bottles in which to pour her oil.  The player is given instructions to find the bottles which are hidden behind other objects, honing directional skills (left, right, above, below).  This particular set of games (even on the second level - which is slightly more difficult) was not very challenging for Preston, however he enjoyed playing them.

We moved on and spent more time on the Early Elementary Level, slated for ages 6-8.  Games in this area focus on adding, subtracting, spelling, telling time and more.  Many of these games WERE challenging for Preston!  He can add and subtract a little, but the David & Goliath game required him to be able to do the math and think quickly enough to hit a moving target and the "Pearl of Great Price" game had him using coins to pay for items, requiring him to be able to add up to 99cents.  Most of the games had him using skills he has, he just needs to work on doing them faster to rack up more points!  With three difficulty levels, I imagine it will be a while before he gets bored of this one!

What Preston liked about this game set is that there are many different types of games and stories that he can navigate between, which will help keep him from burning out on it quickly.  I really expected this game to be cheesy and overly simplified, but I was pleasantly surprised at the great animation and the funny little things included to keep it fun for kids (and parents!  The random accents from some of the characters had me cracking up!). And one of my favorite parts included David getting a call on his cell phone to take food out to his brothers... and what does he take them?  Pizza, of course!   It also really does do a great job of helping kids learn, not only math and spelling, but Bible stories as well!  It brings the scriptures to life, and gets the kids involved! The different levels of Charlie Church Mouse games can be purchased separately, or as the Super Pak here.

I am giving away a copy of Charlie Church Mouse Super Pak right here on my blog!  To enter the giveaway, all you have to do is leave a comment telling me what your favorite game was as a kid.  Please also include your email address so I can contact you if you win!  Comments will be accepted through Friday, January 14th, at 9pm (central).  Prize will be mailed, unless I see you on a regular basis... then you'll get it in person!

I was provided with two games, one for my own use for review purposes and one to give away.  The review stated above is my own, honest opinion.

Praise Champion: Karaoke World Tour Review & Giveaway (Closed)

Congratulations to Vasha! Thanks to everyone for entering, and watch for another PC-ROM review and game giveaway next week!

-----

Left Behind Games sent me their PC CD-ROM game entitled Praise Champion: Karaoke World Tour. This game touts 40 Christian songs, including stuff from Kari Jobe, Lincoln Brewster, Paul Baloche and more.  It also includes 20 Christmas songs.  You have the ability to take part in singing lessons, sing along to the track, record your performances, unlock new venues and outfits to wear and more.  A microphone is included in the box, along with an adapter to fit it to your computer.  The gist of the game is much like Rock Band (minus the instruments), in that you must at least try to hit the notes, though you don't have to get the words correct.  There are mini-games that help you learn pitch and tone, and practice singing to the tracks.  You start out performing in your garage, and as you improve, you get to move up into bigger venues and become more of a star!  We... couldn't get past the garage... and we constantly made the dogs next door (on the game) howl.  Personally, I thought that was a hilarious extra in the game.

I thought my family and I would enjoy this game together, especially since it came right before Christmas and included 20 Christmas songs!  My husband spent a great deal of time attempting to get it to install on our PC, with no luck. It did, however, install just fine on our laptop.  Then, the adapter was broken so we couldn't plug the microphone into the laptop...we had to find another one.  So, once we were finally ready to sing, we were already a bit worn out.  We loaded up the Christmas songs and got ready!  My 5-year-old learned a lot of Christmas carols this year and was ready to belt them out, however the words flew by much too quickly for him to be able to read or follow along and he found it a bit overwhelming.  Also, having worked in the Christian Rock music industry for nearly 9 years, I thought for sure I'd be familiar with most of the songs on this game.  I wasn't.  I only knew a handful of the songs and had never heard of most of the artists.  Overall, I was pretty disappointed with the selections and lack of adjusting you could do to the tracks.  It would be nice to be able to slow them down or add in a background voice to assist you in getting the melody correct.

If you are a better singer than anyone in my family is, or you are more familiar with praise and worship music, then you might enjoy this game a little more.  The graphics aren't bad, and I'm sure it's a lot more fun if you can actually advance in levels and do more with it.  We didn't have the talent or patience for it, unfortunately.  You can purchase extra microphones so that you sing along with other people as well!  This PC game retails for $29.99 and be found here or in stores like Family Christian, Lifeway, Walmart and more.  This game is rated E for "Everyone."

I am giving away a copy of Praise Champion: Karaoke World Tour right here on my blog!  It includes the CD ROM, microphone and (working) adapter.  To enter the giveaway, all you have to do is leave a comment telling me which worship song or Christmas carol is your favorite (it doesn't have to be on this game, just any will do!).  Please also include your email address so I can contact you if you win!  Comments will be accepted through Friday, January 7th, at 9pm (central).  Prize will be mailed, unless I see you on a regular basis... then you'll get it in person!

I was provided with two games, one for my own use for review purposes and one to give away.  The review stated above is my own, honest opinion.

P.S. Next week, I will be reviewing and giving away Charlie Church Mouse Super Pak (a 3 game set for ages 2-8)!  Stay tuned for that!

Mama’s Holiday Wish List Meme

TodaysMama and GameStop are giving away a sleighful of gifts this holiday season and to enter I’m sharing this meme with you.

1. What is your holiday wish for your family? That Michael get a job that is something he wants to do, pays enough to cover our bills, and is daytime.
2. What is your Christmas morning tradition? It's been crazy the last few years since Michael works overnite and sleeps most of the day... we have to distract Preston till afternoon to get his Christmas morning gifts!  Hopefully we don't have to do that this year!
3. If you could ask Santa for one, completely decadent wish for yourself, what would it be?  Right now, a mini-van.  We're down to one car... and if we have another kid in the future we'll need a mini-van.
4. How do you make the holidays special without spending any money?  Just loving on each other.  Enjoying the sites and sounds of the season... Christmas lights, trees, cocoa, music, etc.
5. What games did you play with your family growing up?  I think I always made my dad play Uno with me.  I was an only child... poor Dad.  Haha.
6. What holiday tradition have you carried on from your own childhood?  We still have Christmas Eve with my extended family and keep Christmas "morning" for ourselves, then Christmas afternoon with other family.
7. Where would you go for a Christmas-away-from-home trip?  Anywhere!  But preferably somewhere with real snow!
8. Check out GameStop and tell us, what are the three top items on your GameStop Wish List this year? A DS for Preston, Sports Resort for our Wii and Rock Band.

My new best friend is the UPS man...

My UPS man and I are becoming good friends.  I know that he has twin daughters that are seniors in high school and are on the drill team.  Ok... that's about all I know about him.  He knows that I have two kids, one being a baby who is almost always in my arms when I answer the door, making it difficult for me to sign for my packages.  Once, soon after Callen was born, I put a sign on the door that read "Do not ring doorbell.  Baby sleeping!"  I'm sure he assumed I meant Callen, but... I really meant Michael.  Whatever, it works.  He gave me a stack of slips and said if I knew a package was coming I could just leave that on the door for him and he wouldn't even have to bother me at all, would just leave the package on the porch.  He honks as he's pulling up so that I have time to get to the door to greet him as he's walking up (or he waits patiently for me to get to the door) without knocking or ringing the bell.  Plus, he has to see me in my over-sized sloppy shirt and pj pants, hair all crazy every which way (because I usually look like that till around 4pm)... and he never even looks surprised or frightened.  What a swell guy!

That swell guy is always bringing me silly stuff that I order online for practically nothing, boxes full of products I'm supposed to try out and promote, or silly prizes I win from various outlets... but today he brought me something that wasn't so much silly as it was AWESOME.  He brought me a flat envelope, which I thought was pretty weird, 'cause usually he brings me large boxes!  I opened it to find a check from Kellogg's for $250!  Whoa!

I was one of 3,000 grand prize winners of the Frosted Mini Wheats School Year Resolution Sweepstakes.  FINALLY, I won cash!  Add that to my 24 pairs of Ranger tickets, 'Going The Distance '(movie) prize pack, a Xeko pet for Preston, coupons and tiny random things.... oh, and my 24 bags of Strawberry Milano cookies that still haven't arrived!  Yes, a check for actual money that we can put towards bills... now THATS what I like to see from my UPS man!  Granted, he's just the messenger... it's still hard not to give him a little bit of credit.

Mostly, thank you, Jesus, for this unexpected but very much needed gift!  The time I spend filling out those lame sweepstakes entries, playing the silly games with Preston hoping to win some prize or another, giving out my email and phone number to hundreds of companies and then sorting through the junk emails I get thereafter... TOTALLY WORTH IT!  :::doing a happy dance:::

And actually, I heard today that the Milanos should be arriving via FedEx, so... it's time to make myself a new friend!  =)

The Seven Minute Difference Review & Giveaway [Gi veaway closed]

I was provided with a review copy of The Seven Minute Difference: Small Steps to Big Changes, written by Allyson Lewis, along with the brand new 7 Minute Life Daily Planner, however the views expressed here are my own.  To be honest, I wasn't exactly thrilled about reading and writing about this book.  It looked somewhat boring.  The book is mostly written for business professionals, which I am not.  I am a homemaker with an extremely part-time job (as in I probably "work" 6 days a year or so).  I wasn't sure I'd be able to get much out it.

The book is mostly for working people... it talks a lot about the little (and big) things you can do to improve customer service and growing your business.  But the basic idea it presents is useful to anyone and everyone.  We often wish we were better at something, spent more time doing this or that, had accomplished some goal or another... but life gets in the way, we lose track of our goals and our dreams.  This book offers ways to prioritize and accomplish those goals... no matter how big or small they are.  The main idea is to take action!  Don't just sit around and wish you did... Do it!  Write out your goals, the big ones, the small ones, all of them, even the mundane ones.  Then take a few minutes (or seven) each day to keep moving forward till you've reached the finish line!

It seems so basic. Why would I need to read a book for this? But we are so busy in our day-to-day lives that we rarely take the time to think about what we want, let alone actually attempt it. This book has tips, suggestions, practical guidelines and applications to get you moving to your goal. Whether that goal is business related or keeping the house clean and the kids fed without pulling out your hair. Most of what's written can be customized to your own, personal needs.

The book, The Seven Minute Difference, was published in 2006... what's new is the daily planner, which releases on Friday of this week! This planner is set up to work along with the book and beyond. It gets you focused on what's important each day so that you can make the most of it, not get bogged down in picking up the dry cleaning or running the kids from soccer practice to piano lessons. The point of the planner is to get you to prioritize, organize and simplify your life... business and personal, so that you meet your goals and accomplish what you set out to.  It offers areas to track your progress...whether it's your life goals, financial  goals, something work related or to-do lists for home, as well as monthly calendars and daily sheets.

If you are interested in checking this book and planner out, you can find more information hereOR...I would love to share my copy with anyone who thinks they might like to start making some "small steps to big changes."  That's right, I'm giving the set away!  [To enter, post a comment on this blog letting me know what type of changes you would like to make, along with your email address.  I will pick a winner on the evening of Friday, October 22nd.  Winner will be announced here and emailed for further instructions.  If one person enters, that person wins... if more enter, I will use random.org to pick a winner from the comments.]
