I was thinking that I wouldn't continue the The Homeschool Mother's Journal since we wouldn't really be doing school for a while this Summer. But, I see that The Homeschool Chick added a Summer Edition graphic, and well... I did school stuff this week even though we're not really doing school. Lol! So, why not continue the journey?!? I mean, it is a never-ending journey, right?
In my life this week…
This week totally got away. It's Friday again already? Wow. Sitting here, I don't even know what we did this week. I finished up the 31 Days to Clean Challenge, and agreed to help the author test out the next set of challenges, starting on Monday. I really like having the structure of having a daily "to-do." This week was exhausted, I do remember that. Callen had been sick with fever off and on through the weekend. Then he got congested. Then he just stopped knowing how to sleep... which mean I got very little sleep as well. Last nite he finally slept all the way through the nite! Felt great to get that much sleep again!
In our homeschool this week…
Even though we're not officially doing school, I let Preston start doing some typing lessons. We bought a program called Typing Instructor at the Homeschool Bookfair, and I figured he was ready to start learning how to type. He can hunt and peck already, and get to whatever he needs to (usually pbskids.org or lego.com). I have a feeling he'll pick up the typing pretty quickly if he can stand sitting there and practicing. We'll see. We also started several Summer Reading Programs, so he can earn rewards for the reading he does.
My favorite thing this week was…
Working on Preston's new Calendar & Morning Board that we'll use when school starts back up. I got the inspiration from a few different places, printed out everything, cut out everything, laminated everything (got my laminator on Friday - trust me, that's a whole 'nother blog post!), cut everything out again, got it all attached to the board and the board attached to the wall. I loved it. It was a fun project. I'm actually kind of sad it's over and done with. Haha! It looks great.
Now, it'll sit there till we start school again... haha. Guess I jumped on that a little too soon. Oh well. Just hoping neither of the boys destroy it before we get to use it for real! Haha. [My inspiration, and the printables, came from here and here and here.]
Pretty proud of it, gotta show it off! |

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
This evening, both sets of grandparents are coming over for dinner. Then, we're all heading over to a friend's house for a homeschool awards party! There are several other kids who are graduating Kindergarten, so it should be a lot of fun! Pretty proud of my little graduate! Also, just really looking forward to mingling with others!
