The Homeschool Mother's Journal: Summer Edition, a link-up with The Homeschool Chick.
In my life this week...
- Celebrated July 4th weekend with family. Got to see fireworks.
- Worked the All Request Show again on Tuesday.
- Trying to stay cool. Not much outside time for us!
In our homeschool this week...
- More prep work. I can't seem to stop.
- I can already see much improvement in Preston's handwriting when he's really trying to form the letters correctly. That makes me so happy and proud of his hard work!
- We recorded some information for Cornell University, who is doing a fun thing called Celebrate Urban Birds. Basically, you bird watch in your yard, or wherever you want! Then record whether or not you see certain types of birds. They send you an envelope with info on birds, a pretty poster of birds and a sheet to fill out and send back. Preston liked watching for birds, especially since they are FINALLY making use of the bird feeder we made for them!
We mailed the information off today and Preston wanted to write something on the envelope to the people doing the study:
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share...
- Books and accessories for learning don't have to cost much money. If you're looking for a certain book to use, make sure you check half.com, Amazon (don't forget you can often buy used products through their marketplace too!), various homeschool online classifieds (or if you feel like getting out and hunting - Half Price Books or local homeschool bookstores). I really wanted the Hymns for a Kid's Heart, Vol. 1 book and was having a hard time finding it, or at least finding it in my price range. Finally found it listed in the classifieds for a great price (and it was brand new!). I also got some great flash cards at Target yesterday in the $1 Spot!
I'm praying for...
- Guidance on whether or not to move forward in on a small business venture. I'm not even really sure you can call it that. But, it does require a little money to start up, and then a lot of work on my part to make it worth it. We need the income it could potentially provide, and it actually sounds like a lot of fun. But, I'm leery about such things just the same. Praying for a clear answer from Him.

That is sooo cute!!! I love his addition to the envelope:)
Your next post about lizards cracks me up because we have now have a bearded dragon and I am so afraid Lydia is going to accidentally let him loose in the house. I am not a lizard/snake fan, so this is a huge adjustment and overcoming of a phobia. I have to say...snake in my laundry room. I would probably have to move:(
Thanks for visiting our blog:)

With business you have to remember that a lot of it is "you get what you put in". Like I own a business which could either just be a hobby or can be a serious full-time income. I can't put enough time into it right now to make a full-time income but I can put in enough to supplement my husband's income. :)
Thank you for sharing the half.com web site - I'll definitely be visiting that for deals! I loved your photos this week. We too love to watch for birds; that is until the deer stop by and steal all the seed!
What a cool bird project! We're total birders here! We notice birds everywhere...and I think we're going to have to get a new field guide soon as this one is starting to tear apart with use!
Thanks for stopping and and reading my blog!
Looks like a fun week! Love the bear support!!
thanks for visiting my blog :)
LOVE the bear support :)
I was interested in that bird study you did
I saw something similar a while back however I couldnt do it as I would need a poster to identify the birds
pleasing to see the bird study you linked up sent you that
maybe Ill look into doing this again thanks :)
Prep work IS addicting. I find it more fun then the actual doing sometimes. I have a few things to sell and I forgot about half.com. Thanks for the reminder!
